Common Blind Date Rules
1. Try to go on as many blind dates as possible. You never know who you might meet. Everyone has a unique life and story to tell and they also know other people. Networking is key.
2. Try not to spend hours on the phone before meeting. Save something for when you actually meet. Limit your phone conversations to where and when you are going to meet.
3. Go for drinks instead of dinners. A beverage of choice can keep the blind date quick and offer a quick bail out if need be. Also you can easily extend your blind date meeting with an appetizer if you are attracted to each other.
4. Try not to get other peoples opinions about who you are going to meet. Find out for yourself. Life is an adventure. Get out and experience all life has to offer.
5. Choose a public place to meet. A coffee shop is great. Stay away from noisy night clubs. Movies are also not a good first date venue.
6. Wear comfortable clothing. Be yourself. Focus on the conversation. Not sex or romance.
7. Don't be late. Be on time and polite. Make a new friend and listen to what they have to say.
8. Be careful if you tend to get a lot of cell phone calls. Try to show respect for your date and answer only important calls as necessary.
9. Keep your conversation light and positive. Don't talk about the trials and tribulations of your life. Stay away from how your ex treated you. Surely you have something good to talk about.
10. It's ok to reschedule your date if need be. Things do happen and explain on the phone that you would reall like to meet but you have to change plans. They will understand.
GOLFING IS THE NEWEST ONLINE DATING NICHE
There are online dating services for vegetarians, Christians, pet lovers, graduates of certain colleges, and even online dating services only for people who smoke. But the niche online dating sites continue to grow, and one of the newest services hitting the market is Golfmates.com an online dating service dedicated to people who love golfing.
According to Golfmates.com
The philosophy behind online dating Golfmates.com is simple: Golf is the perfect first date. Why? It's a sport men and women can enjoy playing together. The sport provides an instantaneous icebreaker-a common interest that two people can discuss. Golf is a relaxing, safe, outdoor activity that provides ample opportunities for socializing between shots. What is more, after nine or 18 holes, a round of golf comes to an end-if two people are not compatible, the end of the round is the end of the date." Online dating may be a "Birdie or a Bogey"
ONLINE DATING MINGLEMATCH USES COLOR CODED MATCHING SYSTEM
Online dating company MingleMatch is trying a new way to match people, using a color-coded system to show compatibility between members. The online dating service has been used on several MingleMatch sites for several months, including Asian Singles Connection.
According to MingleMatch, "The Color Code Relationship Profile is generated as participants answer a 45-question online dating profile. The results of each online dating profile places the individual in one of four core color groups -- red, white, yellow, or blue -- with the possibility of a secondary color of varying strength. An individual is given a detailed picture of what each color means. Knowing these personality traits, motivators, and idiosyncrasies creates a higher level of self-awareness and an understanding of how to relate to others."
The color-coding system was devised by Dr. Taylor Hartman and is being used by MingleMatch online dating sites under an exclusive strategic agreement.
Deaf turn to online dating. Hearing impaired use Online Dating to find one another
At first glance, it may seem like just another set of niche online dating sites. After all, Catholics and Jews have them. Swingers have them. Even Ivy League graduates have them. And now, deaf people have them. But there’s something a little more important about these new services that are attracting thousands of single deaf people seeking companionship and love.
There's nothing new about online dating being a connection tool for geographically disconnected
But the recent explosion of online dating - about 17 million people at least peeked at an online dating site last year, according to estimates - has created a cottage industry of smaller online dating sites hoping to draft off the success of market leaders.
Two small but growing sites devoted to online dating for the deaf, both founded by children of deaf parents, now offer non-hearing singles their own place on the Internet to find love.
Web site developer Christiaan Marais wasn’t considering a new career when he started Deafdates.com. He was thinking about his divorced father.
He was trying to get back into the online dating scene. We were talking about online dating, and I said, You should try one of these online dating sites. His father was reluctant, because it’s hard to find other deaf users on the larger online dating sites. br>
He started doing research and realized there’s a really big need for the deaf community to have an online dating service. ... Why not have there be a place where I know that every person in here is at least deaf, hard-of-hearing, or can hear but has a vested interest in the deaf community.
In the first four months of operation, some 1,000 users have signed up - including Marais’ dad, who is still single, but now actively online dating. Currently, Deafdates.com is free, but Marais plans to start charging a small membership fee in the future to support additional features and Web hosting costs.
DeafMatchInternational.com is the older of the two online dating sites, but not by much; it launched in 2001. Founder Paul Haines says the site has nearly 4,000 members, including about 1,000 who pay $20 a month to be “deluxe” members. Already, he said, three couples credit DeafMatchInternational with their weddings. And every day, Haines said, he gets e-mail from happy users who have made new connections thanks to his site.
A lot of deaf people around the country are quite lonely. There are not many people they can be friends with that are deaf,” he said, particularly if they live outside big cities.
Comfortable with technology
The online dating site is run as a second business by Haines, who’s first job is UnitedTTY.com, a firm that sells assistive technologies to the deaf community. Online dating is a natural fit for the deaf, he said.
“They are so used to being able to communicate by typing when they talk to someone on the phone,” he said. Online Dating just allows them a different way of communicating.
The upside of online dating services is you don’t need to pay to look around. You can search profiles and see what you come up with, If you find several matches, you can subscribe; if you don’t, you can move on. “For everyone out there, shopping around makes a lot of sense.
A language minority
Any online dating site that helps deaf people find each other - and love - can be extremely important
.
Can you imagine what it would be like to not even know anybody else who has your experience, how lonely and isolating that would be?
So, just as members of any non-English speaking minority group are drawn together, so are deaf people.
Online Dating Sites which allow video conferencing might have much better luck, because they would allow American Sign Language users to converse in their primary language.
Communication through text messages such as e-mail and instant messaging has been a staple of communication for the deaf for years. However the web cam may be the next step for the deaf and online dating.
Online Dating and the Single Parent
There are millions of single parents looking for love through the online dating scene. Online dating services allow you to search thousands of singles to discover potential matches. You can communicate anonymously and get to know the person before actually going on a first date. You can search for people with variety of interests and narrow down your choices. Can you do that as simply and effectivelly offline?
This is much better than going to a bar or club to meet someone, where you're bound to receive a lot of unwanted advances from drunk guys, born losers, or people who simply don't interest you.
Some online dating services will match you with people who are compatible not just on the surface, but also in the deep and important ways that truly matter in a relationship. Then you get to have fun discovering the chemistry.
You must first join an online dating service. Most offer a free basic membership that allows you to post a profile and browse other profiles and pictures. You can use searching criteria to find closest matches and once you've found people you'd like to communicate with, then you can use the service's anonymous email, messaging system and some have private chatrooms to get to know them better.
You're not restricted to just conversing with one person. Stay interested in several people and get to know them via email before committing to that first phone conversation, or first date.
Some services are definitely better than others. But we are not relationship experts, and this is simply a guide to online dating. Always double check features and prices with the site itself, before committing to joining.
